PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To irradiate an stimulable phosphor sheet with nearly uniform illumination light and to miniaturize a unit. SOLUTION: In an erasing unit arranged inside of a radiation image recorder and reader nearly in a vertical state, an illumination part capable of irradiating the stimulable phosphor sheet IP with erasing light Q is provided inside of a casing. The illumination part 40 is provided with: a first tilting mechanism 46 for tilting and displacing a light source 50 carrying out irradiation with the erasing light Q nearly in a horizontal direction; and a second tilting mechanism 48 for tilting and displacing the light source 50 nearly in a vertical direction. Under tilting work by the first and second tilting mechanisms 46 and 48, the irradiation surface 110 of the sheet IP is irradiated with the erasing light Q from the light source 50 in order.
