PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of displaying an additional picture or an indicator or the like on the outside of a display picture without using a special liquid crystal light valve. SOLUTION: The projector 100 includes a 1st picture projection device 126 for displaying the display picture 127 and a 2nd picture projection device 136 for displaying the additional picture 137, which include illumination optical systems 123 and 133, liquid crystal light valves 124 and 134, and projection optical systems 125 and 135 respectively. The projecting direction of the projection device 136 is set so that the additional picture 137 may be projected to the vicinity of the outer edge of the display picture 127 on the outside of the display picture 127 projected by the projection device 126.
