<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based ink which is superior in dispersion stability even if the content of a carbon black is 10 mass% or higher, and superior in the function as water-based ink for inkjet recording. <P>SOLUTION: The water-based ink which consists of a carbon black, a water-soluble polymer, a hydrophilic organic solvent and water is characterised in that the above-mentioned water-soluble polymer is a polymer which contains cationic monomer units and aromatic vinyl monomer units, and the DBP (dibutyl phthalate) absorption of the above-mentioned carbon black is 150 to 300 ml/100 g, the specific surface of the same is 50 to 300 m<SP>2</SP>/g, and the pH of the same is 6 or higher.
