PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a diarylsulfonic acid derivative at a low cost in a short time. SOLUTION: The method for producing a diarylsulfonic acid derivative represented by general formula (1) Ar<SP>1</SP>-Ar<SP>2</SP>-SO<SB>3</SB>M (1) (Ar<SP>1</SP>is a phenyl group which may contain one or more substituent groups, a condensed ring group or a heterocyclic group; Ar<SP>2</SP>is a phenyl group which may contain one or more substituent groups, a condensed ring group or a heterocyclic group; Ar<SP>1</SP>and Ar<SP>2</SP>may be the same; M is a hydrogen atom or a metal atom) comprises reacting a boron derivative represented by general formula (2) Ar<SP>1</SP>-B(OR<SP>1</SP>)<SB>2</SB>(2) (R<SP>1</SP>is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a cyclic alkyl group or an aryl group) with an arylsulfonic acid derivative represented by general formula (3) X-Ar<SP>2</SP>-SO<SB>3</SB>M (3) (X is iodine, bromine or R<SP>2</SP>-SO<SB>3</SB>; R<SP>2</SP>is an alkyl group, a fluorinated alkyl group or an aromatic hydrocarbon group) in a water-based solvent in the presence of a base and a palladium catalyst.
