PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a CAM cell in which high speed operations are possible by separating comparison operations and data reading and writing operations. SOLUTION: The CAM cell is provided with a bit line pair having a bit line and an inverted bit line, a first memory cell, a second memory cell, a match line, a first comparison section, a second comparison section, a first connecting means and a second connecting means. The first comparison section is connected to the match line and a first retention section and is used to connect the match line to a prescribed first voltage or to interrupt the voltage in response to the search data inputted through a search line or the data retained in the first retention section. The second comparison section is connected to the match line and a second retention section and is used to connect the match line to the first voltage or to interrupt the voltage in response to the search data inputted through an inverted search line and the data retained in the second retention section.
