PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet handling device capable of judging whether or not a bundle of notes inserted from outside is appropriate as early as possible and as accurately as possible. SOLUTION: By moving a clamp 103 toward a conveyor belt 106, the inserted bundle of notes B is conveyed sandwiched between them. The movement of the clamp 103 is executed by the transmission of power to arms 131 and 132. The power transmitted to the arm 132 is transmitted to the arm 131 through a link 133. Slits 133a-c are provided to the link 133, and sensors 145 and 146 are installed for detecting the slits 133a-c. By this arrangement, it is determined whether or not the height of the pressed bundle of notes B is appropriate for the bundle to be taken in, utilizing the change in the positional relation between the slits 133a-c and the sensors 145 and 146 resulting from the movement of the clamp 103.
