PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a support device capable of rotating a rod or a tube to a predetermined position when a piston is placed at a moving end and limiting relative rotation of the rod and the tube while the piston is moving. SOLUTION: The support device has the tube 11, the piston 12, the rod 16, engaging pins 20, 21 protruding from an inner face of the tube, an engaging member 17 capable of being irrotational relative to the rod and capable of moving in an axial direction, a plurality of engaging grooves 27a, b, provided for the engaging member in the axial direction, for fitting the engaging pins, an energizing member 28 for energizing the engaging member to a piston side, a plurality of communication grooves 23a, b provided on an outer peripheral face of the piston in the axial direction and an engaging peripheral groove 22 for extending in a peripheral direction continuing to the communication groove. The device is structured so that the engaging member is pressed by the piston, resisting energizing force of the energizing member at a stroke end, and the engaging pin comes off from the engaging groove, fits in the communication groove and then fits in the engaging peripheral groove.
