PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and a process cartridge which have stable characteristics even for repeated use in a high temperature and high humidity environment, and which stably supply a high-quality image without an image defect. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a plurality of image forming means each having at least an electrophotographic photoreceptor on which an electrostatic latent image is formed and a developing device for developing the electrostatic latent image. The plurality of the image forming means are successively arranged from the upstream side to the downstream side along the traveling direction of a transfer material or an intermediate transfer body carried in a predetermined direction so that toner images in different colors formed on the respective electrophotographic photoreceptors are successively transferred onto the transfer material or the intermediate transfer body to form a multicolor image.
