The device for the securing of a load in a rear boot space (12) of a motor vehicle has a roll-up type cover element (26) with a tensioning bow (28) and which is mounted on a winding shaft (30) which is installed in a housing space (32) in the floor region of the boot in such a way that it is pretensioned in the opening or roll-up direction. A cover element (34) is provided for the housing space and is variably fixable for use as a deflection element for the cover element.
