The invention relates to the ferrous metallurgy, in particular to steel melting in the open-hearth furnace. The method involves incorporation into the bath of unit in the periods of melting and bringing the steel of briquettes with a density of 1.3-1.8 from the density of furnace slag in the period of incorporation of briquettes and open porosity of 30-40 %. The briquette contains exothermal ferroalloys with manganese which weight parts ratio in the briquette and in the metal in the period of briquettes incorporation is of 60 - 180. The weight flow of the briquettes is of 0.4-0.8 of the carbon weight in the period of addition. The briquettes parameters compliance with the bath state in the moment of addition provides an efficient heating without stopping bath boiling and reducing the heat transfer intensity from the torch to the metal.
