PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat exchanger with a header tank having split construction in an approximately square cross section for compatibly attaining brazing quality and machinability. SOLUTION: The heat exchanger 1 comprises the header tank 5 which consists of a tank body 52 having an upper wall portion 52a in an approximately U-shaped cross section and two side wall portions 52b, a core plate 51 having a bottom wall portion 51a in an approximately U-shaped cross section and two rising portions 51b on which a step portion 51e is formed for receiving part of the side wall portions of the tank body, and an approximately rectangular side cap 53 having a peripheral wall portion 53b therearound for sealing the tank space 5a at its longitudinal end formed by the tank body and the core plate. The core plate, the tank body and the side cap have bent portions 51c, 52c, 53c, respectively, whose R-diameters are almost the same. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
