<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air bag for a passenger seat which can protect a passenger by softly receiving the upper half body of the passenger. <P>SOLUTION: This air bag 20 for the passenger seat is housed by being folded on the upper surface 2 side of an instrumental panel 1 in front of a passenger seat. When gas for expansion flows in, the air bag 20 protrudes upward, and, deploys and expands to the rear side of a vehicle in a manner to close a space between the upper surface 2 of the instrumental panel and a window shield 4. A wall 21 at the passenger side when the expansion is completed is formed with a recess 22 which dents toward the front side, and the area of the recess becomes an area for the breast which can protect the breast of the passenger. An area rising above the recess is made an area 23 for the head which can protect the head of the passenger. Areas rising on both the right and left sides of the recess are made areas 25 and 26 for sides which support vicinities of both sides of the passenger. An area rising under the recess is made an area 24 for the belly which can protect the belly of the passenger.
