The invention relates to a method for operating a sensor in a safety system and to a safety system. The aim of the invention is to improve the reliability of a method for operating at least one sensor in a safety system, in addition to providing a corresponding safety system. To achieve this, the sensor transmits an electric response signal to a central system unit and is induced by the latter to act as a reversible electromechanical system by means of a diagnosis and/or excitation signal.
