DOWNHOLE FIBER OPTIC WET CONNECT AND GRAVEL PACK COMPLETION

A downhole fiber optic wet connect and gravel pack completion. In a described embodiment, a system (10) for making fiber optic connections in a subterranean well (14) includes a first fiber optic connector (36) positioned in the well (14) and a second fiber optic connector (54) operatively connected to the first fiber optic connector (36) after the first fiber optic connector (36) is positioned in the well (14). A method of monitoring a subterranean well (14) includes the steps of: positioning a fiber optic line (50) in the well (14), the fiber optic line (50) extending in a formation intersected by the well(14); positioning another fiber optic line (56) in the well (14), the fiber optic line (56) extending to a remote location; operatively connecting the fiber optic lines (50,56) while the fiber optic lines (50,56) are in the well (14); and monitoring a well parameter using a sensor (58) operatively coupled to the fiber optic line extending in the formation.
