A disposable, wearable, self-contained medicine dispensing device comprising a housing 36, adhesive means for attaching the housing to the skin of a user of the device, a cylindrical medicine container 52 in the housing and incorporating a piston and having an open distal end and a proximal end closed by a closure body 54 made of a material, preferably silicone, that can be perforated by a needle, a piston rod 44 with a longitudinally extending first screw thread on the outer surface thereof for displacing the piston towards the closed proximal end, a ratchet wheel 40 with a central aperture 42 for receiving the piston rod and provided with a second screw thread meshing with the first screw thread such that rotation of the ratchet wheel in a first rotational direction will displace the piston, a pivotable element 78 pivotable around an axis adjacent the ratchet wheel and provided with a pawl 74 for engaging the teeth of the ratchet wheel such that pivoting of the pivotable plate in a second rotational direction rotates the ratchet wheel in the first rotational direction, a rod spring 66 adapted and arranged for applying a spring force to the plate at a first point spaced from the axis for pivoting the plate in the second rotational direction, and a battery powered actuator for rotating the pivotable plate in a third rotational direction opposite the second rotational direction. |
