<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pointing device for enabling a displayed cursor or other navigation control to be controlled in a different mode, such as in different resolution, and a method for using the pointing device. <P>SOLUTION: This pointing device can include a first pointing element and a second pointing element. The first pointing element and the second pointing element use their own original navigation mode and can independently control the same navigation control. In addition, or alternately, the pointing device can further have a switching function of making a switch between navigation modes.
