METHOD FOR TREATING HIGH VISCOSITY MATERIAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating a high viscosity material by which retention of and blockage by the high viscosity material are prevented and transportation thereof is improved so as to be carried out by a pipeline without adding a solvent to the high viscosity material when transporting the high viscosity material in a molten state, discharged in a production process of acrylic acid or an acrylic ester by a vapor-phase catalytic oxidation, to a storage tank. SOLUTION: The method for treating the high viscosity material comprises regulating the contents of polymers of the acrylic acid and a polymerization inhibitor in the high viscosity material so as to be≥40 wt.% and≥4 wt.% respectively, and transporting the high viscosity material while keeping the temperature at≥110°C when transporting the high viscosity material discharged in a production process of the acrylic acid or the acrylic ester by he vapor-phase catalytic oxidation by the pipeline to the storage tank.
