PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the leakage of a fuel from a fuel injection valve while an engine is stopped by a method different from a conventional one. SOLUTION: In this internal combustion engine having the fuel injection valve 11 directly injecting the fuel into a combustion chamber 1a, the fuel is injected from the fuel injection valve disposed in a cylinder having an opened exhaust valve 45 after the operation of the engine is stopped.
