The labelling device has a stamp (18) used for application of a label to a moving object (16), a contactless measuring device (42) determining the stroke time of the stamp from the time interval between its movement from an initial position and it reaching the moving object. The measuring device may use a magnet (54) cooperating with a number of relatively spaced Hall sensors (46), extending parallel to the displacement direction (20) of the stamp.
