An air intake for a turboprop engine, especially aircraft engine, has an intake duct (14) contoured around the transmission (13) and fitted with internal fixed cutting blades which chop any ingested items into sufficiently small pieces which do not damage the turbine. The blades are positioned in any suitable alignment especially across the airflow and in line with the airflow, and on the insides of bends in the duct.
