<p>Disclosed is a content-adaptive method for motion compensated 3D wavelet transformation of video. Ghosting and non-aligned aliasing artefacts in prior known model failure are addressed. The transformation continuously adapts Between "t+2D" and "2D+t" structures based upon information within the compressed bit-stream. Ghosting artefacts are reduced by the transform selecting between different low-pass temporal filters based upon an estimate of the accuracy of the motion model. Motion compensated values used to produce high-pass temporal sub-band frames are adaptively attenuated in accordance with local estimates of the accuracy of the model at each of a number of spatial and temporal resolutions. The transform may achieve high compression efficiency whilst offering high quality reduced spatial and temporal resolutions sequences.</p> |
