PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide cast iron having no remarkable increase in hardness, having excellent wear resistance, having a tensile strength of≥400 MPa, and having satisfactory productivity. SOLUTION: The gray cast iron material has chemical components composed of, by weight, 2.4 to 2.8% C, 2.3 to 3.5% Si, 0.2 to 0.8% Mn,≤0.1% P,≤0.15% S, 0.6 to 1.4% Cu,≤0.5% Mo and≤0.3% Cr, and the balance substantially Fe, and in which the ratio of Si/C is controlled to≥0.95, and the ratio of (Si/C)/Cu is controlled to≤1.5.
