<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide both a method and an apparatus capable of measuring vital signs of a subject easily and accurately without restraining the subject and inserting or attaching examination devices to the subject. <P>SOLUTION: For example, when the breath of the subject 100 is measured, a region which shows the breath and is ranged from the front of the chest through the back in the thorax part and from the shoulder through the lower part of the chest is imaged by a video camera 11.
