PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device of a high-brightness discharge lamp with long life and low cost. SOLUTION: The lighting device of high-brightness discharge lamp is constructed so as to include at least a switching means 8 switching polarities of a power source supplied to the high-brightness discharge lamp, and a switch control means 5 for controlling the switching means 8 depending on a turning-on or turning-off operation of a lighting switch 9 of the lamp 4, and to switch the polarities of the power source every time when the lamp 4 is lighted.
