<p>An automated process for the production of a polymer is disclosed, wherein the pH and viscosity of a reaction mixture in a reaction mixture in a reaction vessel are monitored by way of an electronic controller operative for i) receiving input signals from pH and viscosity sensors located in a reaction vessel, ii) determining by comparison to predetermined viscosity limits whether the rate of polymerisation requires adjustement, and iii) transmitting output signals to control means operative for regulating the rate of polymerisation in response to the viscosity measurements. The automated process permits greater reproducibility in product quality than manual process and is preferably employed for the preparation of liquid binders based on polyacrylamide.</p> |
