SOLUTION: This catalyst combustion control method performs the operation by increasing and decreasing an air supply amount in the operation with an air excess coefficientλ, between an upper limit valueλ<SB>2</SB>and a lower limit valueλ<SB>1</SB>of air excess coefficient in a stable combustion range determined in advance by experiments, within a range of an upper limit ratio value C<SB>H</SB>and a lower limit ratio value C<SB>L</SB>of the air volatility determined on the basis of a formula: C<SB>H</SB>=100×(λ<SB>2</SB>/λ-1)C<SB>L</SB>=100×(1-λ<SB>1</SB>/λ).
