PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a label printer for selectively performing continuous printing output operation without separating labels, and label separating operation, and a label separating method. SOLUTION: In the separating operation, a movable separating member 21 is turned around a platen shaft 17 to move a separating end part 22 into a second position (a position in the figure) to pressure-move label paper 91. Since a bending guide 27 is provided on the lower side of a position facing the movable separating member, of a conveying path 12, the label paper 91 is bent at a bent part 95 with the cooperation of the separating end part 22 and the bending guide 27. When the label paper in the bent state is fed reversely downstream by a platen roller 15, the label paper 91 is bent with a small radius of curvature at the bent part 95, so that a label 92' is separated by the rigidity. When performing continuous printing output, printing is performed while conveying the label paper in a normal direction in the state of the movable separating member 21 being driven into the first position.
