PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing the cycloolefin addition polymer having high productivity by addition-(co)polymerizing in a high polymerization activity, the cycloolefin addition polymer being produced by addition-(co)polymerizing in a high polymerization activity with small affect to the polymerization activity, even if a trace of oxygen is present in polymerization, or a monomer composition containing the cycloolefin compound having a polar group, especially a hydrolytic silyl group is copolymerized. SOLUTION: The method for producing a cycloolefin addition polymer comprises addition-polymerizing a monomer containing the cycloolefin compound in the presence of a multi-component catalyst comprising (A) a palladium compound, (B) a compound selected from the group consisting of an ionic boron compound, an ionic aluminium compound and a lewis acid aluminium or boron compound, and (C) an addition complex of a specific phosphine compound and an organoaluminium compound.
