PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an axial force bearing column simplified to be well constructible and reducible in cross section with high proof stress, and to provide its constructing method. SOLUTION: A top plate 3, a base plate 5 and a connection steel pipe 7 are installed in a steel pipe 2 to from a steel pipe unit 9. The steel pipe unit 9 is arranged on a foundation beam 10a and the base plate 5 is fixed thereto via a fixing means 18. After hardening material 8 is filled into both the steel pipe 2 and the connection steel pipe 7, a floor slab 10b is built up on a right upper floor in the state of being supported by a top plate 3 with the connection steel pipe 7 passing therethrough. After a new steel unit 9' is arranged on the floor slab 10b on the right upper floor and the connection steel pipe 7 passing through the floor slab 10b is aligned to be inserted through a through-hole 6 of the base plate 5 of the new steel pipe unit 9', the hardening material 8 is filled into both the steel pipe 2 and the connection steel pipe 7 and the floor slab 10b is built up on the right upper floor in the state of being supported by the top plate 3.
