An input interface (104) receives a radar signal (102) and produces range and bearing signals (106). A filter (108) interacts with a digital map (112) and evaluates the likelihood (114) of these range and bearing signals for possible positions and computes the most likely position and orientation (110) of the platform hosting the apparatus. A dynamic motion model is used in the filter to predict the movement of the platform between the likelihood evaluations. An interface (118) outputs the position and orientation values (114).
