The substrate (3) and support web (6) for the reflective layer (2) are positioned on top of each other and then hot-pressed in order to melt the web and substrate. The reflective layer comprises a layer (4) comprising metal and glass particles. A method for applying a reflective layer to a plastic substrate comprises positioning the substrate and the support web for the reflective layer on top of each other and then hot-pressing in order to melt the web and substrate so that the reflective layer and substrate are heat-welded together. The reflective layer comprises a synthetic support web and a layer comprising metal and glass particles. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Reflective material comprising a support web having a layer comprising glass particles and metal bonded to it, the web being capable of being heat-welded to a substrate; and (2) Laminate (1) comprising the reflective material heat-welded to a substrate.
