PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum alloy sheet for a high strength rectangular battery case which has excellent drawing/ironing workability and laser weldability and improved creep properties, and with which the blistering deformation of a case can be suppressed even if the temperature and pressure in the case are increased by the repetition of charging-discharging, and to provide its production method. SOLUTION: The aluminum alloy sheet has a composition comprising >1.0 to <1.5% Mn, >0.5 to <0.9% Mg, >0.4 to <0.7% Cu, 0.05 to <0.20% Si and 0.1 to 0.5% Fe, and further comprising one kind of metal selected from >0.15 to <0.3% Zr and >0.15 to <0.3% Cr, and the balance Al with impurities, and in which the contents of Mn, Mg and Cu satisfy the relation of 2.5×Cu%<Mn%+Mg%, and is preferably subjected to cold rolling at a working degree of 20 to 60%.
