PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display an image enabling diagnostic reading to be done without being affected by halation generated on the image due to mechanical slackness of an X-ray irradiation field aperture or distortion caused by introducing I.I. SOLUTION: The output side of an X-ray tube 20 is provided with: an X-ray irradiation field aperture 23 to narrow an X-ray to prevent unnecessary sections from being irradiated; an X-ray irradiation field aperture control section 33 to control the degree of the aperture of the X-ray irradiation field aperture 23; a blackening means 55 to calculate an X-ray irradiation field aperture edge coordinate, corresponding to the end section at the aperture side of the X-ray irradiate field aperture 23, from an image photographed and to recognize an X-ray irradiation field aperture area based on the X-ray irradiation field aperture edge coordinate and blacken it; a gradation blackening means 56 to calculate a halation edge coordinate from the image photographed and to recognize a halation area based on the halation edge coordinate and the X-ray irradiation field area; and a gradation blackening function DB57 housing a plurality of gradation blackening functions to do gradation blackening of the halation area.
