PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an AC generator for a vehicle having a protection cover which can prevent the + potential part of a rectifier from being exposed even when the AC generator collides with the structural member, etc., of a vehicle body, etc., secondarily by the collision of the vehicle. SOLUTION: The AC generator 1 includes a rotary electric machine 2 and the rectifier 3. The rotary electric machine 2 has a rotor 24 disposed in a housing 4, and a stator core installed on the inner peripheral wall of the housing 4. The rectifier 3 rectifies three-phase AC currents induced in an armature coil 25. The rectifier 3 is built in the rear side of the rear end frame 42 of the housing 4 with a screw, and covered with the protection cover 5 of substantially circular dish shape coaxially clamped at the rear end frame 42. The protection cover 5 made of a resin is made by mixing an elastomer in a nylon 66, and has a tensile breakage elongation of 10% or more, and a Charpy impact strength (with a notch) more than 78 (kJ/m<SP>2</SP>).
