Connections addressed in a network (4) support different transmission standards. Sub-networks are formed, in which connections of the same standard are combined. The type of standard required for data transmission is ascertained automatically and a connection with the corresponding sub-network is produced. Subsequent data transmission via this sub-network is achieved. An independent claim is also included for a system for carrying out the method of the present invention.
