PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prohibit recording or erasing operation of information by a recording and reproducing apparatus for a first disk cartridge disk cartridge for a second disk cartridge, in the second disk cartridge having higher recording capacity than the first disk cartridge being standard. SOLUTION: A cartridge main body 24 is provided with a first recording propriety detecting hole 33A for detecting propriety of recording for the first disk cartridge, and a second recording propriety detecting hole 33B for detecting propriety of recording for the second disk cartridge, while a recessed part 326' which is arranged with the first recording propriety detecting hole 33A at a position at which the second recording propriety detecting hole 33B is blocked and making the first recording propriety detecting hole 33A an open state is formed for an erroneous recording preventing member 32 being movable to forming positions of these first and second recording propriety detecting holes 33A, 33B.
