PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 4-hydroxybutyl (meth)acrylate in a high yield and an apparatus for producing the same. SOLUTION: The method for producing 4-hydroxybutyl (meth)acrylate comprises (A) reacting 1,4-butanediol with (meth)acrylic acid in the presence of a catalyst in a hydrocarbon solvent, (B) adding water to the reaction mixture to separate a water layer from a hydrocarbon solvent layer, (C) adding toluene to the water layer to separate a toluene layer from the water layer and (D) distilling away toluene from the toluene layer to recover 4-hydroxybutyl (meth)acrylate. The apparatus for producing 4-hydroxybutyl (meth)acrylate is obtained by combining a reaction vessel with a first and a second extraction columns. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
