CUBIC BORON NITRIDE SINTERED COMPACT

A cubic boron nitride sintered compact according to a first invention which comprises a cubic boron nitride (cBN) particles and a binder for binding the above cBN particles. This sintered particles comprise 70 to 98 vol % of cBN particles and the balanced amount of a binder, which binder in turn comprises a Co compound, an Al compound, WC and a solid solution of them, wherein cBN particles in the sintered compact contain 0.03 wt % or less of Mg and 0.001 to 0.05 wt % of Li. A cubic boron nitride sintered compact according to a second invention which is the cubic boron nitride sintered compact according to a first invention, wherein the binder is an Al compound, instead of the binder in the first invention. The above cubic boron nitride sintered compact exhibits excellent resistance to the occurrence of a defect and excellent resistance to abrasion, in combination.
