<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily and highly precisely calculate the optimum recording power for recording multi-level data in a recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: When information is recorded for a recording medium by a multi-level recording system, test writing corresponding to each value of multi-level data is performed with a plurality of test writing power Pt (S103-S105), data approximation function indicating correlation between each value (m) of the multilevel data and a normalization level Id (m) in which a reproduction signal level I (m) relating to the reading is normalized is guided out (S106-S110) for each value of the test writing power Pt, further, power approximation function indicating correlation between a property of each data approximation function and the test writing power Pt is guided out (S111, S112), a value of the writing power such that the data approximation function becomes desired function is guided out from this power approximation function, the value is decided as recording power Po used for recording information (S113-S115).
