PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semi-aromatic polyamide based porous membrane excellent in a pure water permeation performance, a fractioning performance, strength, heat resistance, a low water absorption property and chemical resistance and further excellent in a process controlling property, a cost efficiency and a pore formation property, and to provide its production method. SOLUTION: The semi-aromatic polyamide based porous membrane comprises a membrane material containing partial aromatic polyamide as a main component and an average pore diameter of the membrane surface is within a range of 0.01-10μm. The porous membrane has fine pores having an average pore diameter of 3μm or more on the membrane surface and has a pure water permeation speed of 30,000 L/m<SP>2</SP>/hr/98kPa or more and a fraction particle diameter of 1μm or more.
