PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for giving high heat resistance and oxidation resistance to the metal powder of a base metal, noble metal or the like used for electrically conductive paste. SOLUTION: A coating film composed of boric acid and a metal alkoxide is formed on the surface of each metal grain. Thus, higher heat resistance can be realized as well as oxidation resistance. The main action is synergetic heat resisting action based on boric acid and metal alkoxide. For example, on firing at 1,000°C, the composite metal powder causes two step thermal decomposition, i.e. based on thermal decomposition of boric acid and that of metal alkoxide. The metal grains are cooled by endothermic thermal decomposition and endothermic water evaporation by the two step stages, and heat resistance is imparted to the metal grains. By the coexistence of boric acid and metal alkoxide, heat resisting effect higher than the heat resisting effect of a metal alkoxide simple substance is manifested. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
