A glycolic acid copolymer, characterized in that it comprises (a) not less than 80 mol % and less than 95 mol % of a glycolic acid monomer unit, (b) 5.0 to 20.0 mol % of a monomer unit of a hydroxycarboxylic acid except glycolic acid and (c) 0 to 0.10 mol % of diglycolic acid monomer unit, each of said monomer units (b) of a hydroxycarboxylic acid except glycolic acid independently constitutes a plurality of segments comprising at least one said monomer unit (b), an average chain length of said plurality of segments represented as the average number of said monomer unit (b) is 1.00 to 1.50, the sum of said components (a), (b) and (c) is 100 mol %, and it has a weight average molecular weight of 50,000 or more.
