The instrument has an ultrasound-driven work head (26) for producing a cavity in a root canal of a tooth. A filling peg in the form of a cavity is inserted into the cavity of the canal, such that no gap is formed between the peg and canal cavity. The peg is made up of a bio-compatible, sterilized implant material e.g. ceramic. The head is tapered at an angle of 3 degree that is smaller than a contact angle between the tooth and peg.
