PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame-retardant resin composition which can give an optical fiber cord featured by having the property of being incinerated without forming any toxic gases, has high flame retardancy, blocking characteristics, and whitening resistance and to provide an optical fiber cord using the same. SOLUTION: The flame-retardant resin composition comprises 100 pts. mass base polymer containing a halogen-free lowly crystalline or amorphous polymer and a crystalline polymer or a thermoplastic polymer, 150 to 250 pts. mass metal hydroxide, and 20 to 40 pts. mass flame retardant aid. The base polymer contains, in total, 13 to 27 mass% repeating structural units having a specified group. The optical fiber cord is formed by using the flame-retardant resin composition.
