As an initial screen of the menu selection screen, menu icons (character icons A to E) and a position-fixed selection frame (102) are displayed on a display unit (100) (state 1). Hereinafter, each time the shift key (110) is operated, the menu icons are shifted to set state 3, state 4, state 5, and then back to state 1. That is, the menu icons are cyclically shifted while successively passing through the fixed selection frame (102). When a desired menu icon is positioned in the selection frame (102), the user operates a selection key (112) to select the menu item (function) corresponding to the menu icon.
