A solid ink print head reservoir (10) includes a plate (12) having first and second sides (90,92) and a passage extending through said plate. The plate defines an angled channel (98) in communication with the passage and an outlet region (102). The outlet regions are located at the apex of angled portion of the channels, thus when purging the air bubbles, a minimal amount of ink is required. The angle or slope of the channel is determined such that large bubble generate enough unconstrained buoyancy to overcome the surface tension holding them in position. <IMAGE>
