<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and an image processing method capable of easily performing color processing so that optimum color reproduction can be performed in a recording medium to be used. <P>SOLUTION: A recording medium instructor 1 designates a recording medium (target recording medium) to be used for actually forming an image by an output color image signal. Also, a profile instructor 2 designates a profile corresponding to an input color image signal. A recording medium corrector 3 corrects the difference in color reproduction characteristic between the designated target recording medium and a standard recording medium premised by the designated profile. A standard input image signal color convertor 4 applies color conversion conforming to the profile designated by the instructor 2 to the input color image signal corrected by the corrector 3.
