PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine with a variable valve system supplying stable air fuel mixture into a cylinder even at a time of operation with a minimum intake valve lift. SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine with the variable valve system is provided with the variable valve system controlling valve lift characteristics of the intake valve 1. A seat surface 62 on which a seal surface 67 of a valve head part 66 abuts at a time of seating is formed on a valve seat 60 on which the valve head part 66 of the intake valve 1 is seated. Fuel repelling film 65 preventing formation of fuel film is formed at a position in an upstream side of a part abutting on the seal surface 67 at the time of seating on the valve seat 60.
