METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MANUFACTURING OPTICAL FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time for the repairing work till the drawing of glass is started again by preventing the glass from being accumulated in a heating furnace when an optical fiber is broken in the upstream side of a drawing means in the manufacture of the optical fiber by drawing. SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method of the optical fiber G2 by drawing an optical fiber preform G arranged in a heating zone of the heating furnace 2 and heated, when the optical fiber G2 is broken in the upstream side of a capstan 13 in a process of drawing the optical fiber G2 with the capstan 13, the occurrence of the breakage is detected and the optical fiber preform G is moved upward to be removed from the heating zone.
