UV rays are used to disinfect and oxidize organic compounds in oils and greases. The temperature of the medium is raised to improve the viscosity and increase the effectiveness of disinfection and oxidizing by the UV rays. The medium is brought to the required viscosity in a vessel (1) by a heater (2). A pump (3) impels the medium through a filter (4) for an initial cleaning action, and forces it through a UV radiation unit (5) where the UV rays trigger the oxidizing process together with a bactericide action. The medium returns to the vessel, and can be recirculated through the system as often as necessary.
